Within The Veil Series: Faith for Tomorrow!
Modern Oshogbo Abstractionist:
I came in contact with the Oshogbo School through an initial association with Toki Memorial Arts Centre Ibadan in 1980/81 and mentored by Tunde Odunlade, who later became the Center’s Artistic Director. I had developed interest in visual arts as a talented artist and was always sharing my artistic expressions at the Toki Memorial Arts centre with other few Oshogbo artists including Tunde Odunlade, Tunrayo Onibonokuta, etc.
OSOGBO
Oshogbo is the capital city of Osun State, Nigeria. A city of art and culture, the Oshogbo school of arts has a unique history and formidable force in African arts. A well-nurtured culture laced with ancient tradition, the Oshogbo Art school have produced prominent world-renowned artists like Twin Seven-Seven, Dr. Onibonokuta, Rufus Ogundele, Muraina, Tunde Odunlade and others.
My stints at the Toki Memorial Arts Centre provided a strong appetite and craving for artistic excellence. During this period, I had developed stronger relationships with world-class artists and acquired skills in the batik and pen/ink painting. I was hugely influenced by Tunde Odunlade and Tunrayo Onibonokuta.
The duo of Tunde and Tunrayo had exhibited some of my paintings in the United States in absentia.
Although, I later pursued a career in investment management while in Geneva, Switzerland. This further encouraged my drive for art collection for investment as an asset class. I’ve since resumed my painting skills. As an investment strategist and wealth advisor, I had evolved in collecting paintings of African Art.
